Ode to Fitness
Ode to fitness
By David Smyth
I ride my bike from town to townBy hoards of smiling facesMy bpm goes up and downAs my heart’s put through its paces
I pump my legs and feel the burnI’m living determinationAt break neck speed I take the turnsI seek fat extermination
I swallow bugs and spit them outI swig water from my bottleA million swears will leave my mouthAs I ramp up on the throttle
My arm gets numb my breath gets thinMy feet slip of the pedalI slam into an open binJust three minutes from the medal
I see the light and wish I’d soughtA life less dull and dryBut as it is, my final thoughtIs what’s my bmi?
I never had a cushy jobDesks won’t make you feel aliveBut I wish I’d been that brain dead slobThey live ‘till sixty five

BODY OF LIFE, BODY OF WORK
A gift of life, given to liveThe life we took, when born to live.A Body-for-Life to dwell and care,To use and serve our purpose here.Fitness training and good meal planWill help one keep it fit and strongAs a good temple of soul on earth. For the body of life is the body of work. From deep within, we make the move,To live or waste, diet or gorge, To train and change, for a healthy body,The choice is ours, to make the difference.

Ultimate Rock Climbing
WOW! This was one of the coolest expereinces through my movement class! We went actual, real rock type, climbing. I had a total of 6 climbs. Boy, was a tired by my last climb. The sun was quite grueling. The helpers were sooo nice and just so excited to share with us their knowledge and experences. We owe a lot to them, taking time off work to come help us climb. My most exciting climb was a rock called virtigo. It was basically a vertical climb. I struggled real bad in the beginning but kept trying and with a little encourgement from my friends I made it to the top. It was my most triumphant climb. Everyone on this trip was sooo encouraging and I was very thankful to have this experience with so many cool friends. Can't wait to do it again!

Hiking
Well this was quite a treat and a lot harder then I though the hike was going to be. It was basically up hill for an hour plus. This climb defiantely told me i needed to get in shape. Although i thought i was pretty consistent on the way up. Instead of taking giants steps towards the hill i took small quick steps to save my energy. i thought it worked quite well. Everyone did i thought really well. It was a beautiful site when we got to the top. I would climb only again to see the emaculate view. Down hill wasn't my favorite only because i thought i was going to fall and hurt myself. I had good shoes on its just the going down isn't my favorite. Once we were down at teh bottom the car was quite nice.
EHS rock climb.
I felt pretty much in my element for the rock climb. I don't mind hights and i've rock climbed before. I knew how to tie the ropes but it was a nice refresher from a well trained rock climber. I started the climb with the vertical straight which was pretty easy. Then I tried the next part which had a harder element to it. Thirdly i tried what i thought was the hardest climb because gravity was pulling you down ward because of the way the wall was tilted so it was fun having to learn how to climb in a different way. I touched the last peg on the top but soon felt because my arms felt like jello. This climb made me excited to do a real climb and i'm hoping i do well. Again I would totally climb in my own time. Everyone else did really well too!
Biking
This was an up hill battle between me and my bike. I put my gears on 1 and 2 and went for it. Up hill was my favorite because it gave me no fear of speed. I though I did well not stopping and keeping behind ms. speedy, becky! Once at the top I felt much relief and success. I've never mountain biked before so I felt triumphant. Going down hill was another story. I'm a little afraid of going down hill and not being able to control myself. I love speed but not when i'm in control. :) Once i finally made it down, being one of the last ones it was nice to know I had a nice sit down rise home in the car. Would I do this again? Yes!

Geo what!
Today we used GPS systems to travel around the central campus. We hid a cache someone on campus and wrote down its location in degrees and then had to use the GPS systems to find other peoples hidden cache. Another fun way to exercise either individually or in groups/partners. I personally enjoyed this because I got to hang with becky and allison. We work well as a group and thats what made it fun. It was also fun seeing the other people in my cohort search for the burried treasure. ANOTHER MEMORABLE DAY!
Compass fun!
Today was a new adventure for me in the sense that I learned how to travel with a compass. I used one when I was really little but had forgotten how to use it. Using the compass could be great for students and making exercise fun with out knowing your exercising. I liked how using the compass could be done individually or with partners/groups. Overall a fun day!

Into the INLINE
Today was a great taste for me at inline skating. I had the right sized shoes on so I was comfortable. I felt invinsible, all the sudden skating like i did as a kid came right back to me. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. I enjoyed playing hockey. I think i'll be fine for testing I just need to keep confident and positive when I skate and get the right sized knee and elbow pads! Another successful day with the cohort. I was glad to see everyone there.

Flippin Frisbee
I'm going to just go and say it, I like frisbee! I think its super fun, especially when a game of some sort is involved.
One thing about firsbee is you have to watch out for crazy throws. Just in the few hours that we played I saw people beamed in the head, in the back of the head and in the "lower region" (haha sean m). I also saw some close calls. But besides that its a ball.
I think i'll be alright at the test, although frisbee can be a little unpredictable.

Mountain bikin, archery shootin, cohort hangin time
Today we traveled to our professors house in deep ellensburg. I'm with the red team which consists of, me, allison, linse, sean c, sean m, michael, shane, carl, karli, emily, chelsea, and jason. I love this group, oh course I love my whole cohort, but this is a good group. Good people who want to have fun. Having fun is exactly what I didn't do though in the beginning of this trip. It turned into fun, don't get me wrong but, I had to push myself to become the ultimate mountain biker today. Mountain biking consisted of falling, skidding and muscle exhaustion. But after a few simple rules from the man, DOC, I did just fine and got to have some fun.
Archery was fun right off the bat for me. Its not a normal everyday sport for me and I love to try new things. I was intrigued and I think everyone else was to. Overall a good day, a good tan and a good workout.

Traverse/Inline skating
Today I was filled with a lot of enthusiasm. I like to rock climb and to traverse is a style/type of climbing on a rock wall. It was fun to watch everyone climb and to see people push themselves. I especially enjoyed the climbing when we added obstacles and specific routes, I enjoy a good challenge.
We also did some inline skating out on the Central tennis court. This was fun, but I haven't skated in a while so I was a little rusty. :) If I practice i'm sure i'll get the hang of it again. My favorite part was skating backwards although I had a trouble with my speed and wouldn't be able to stop or turn around.
I think both of these activities will be fun to incorporate into the class room.

Opening day, Movement 3.
My first impression of this was that it was going to be fun! We were going to be moving around a lot and doing activities I've never done on my own or ever before. I was also really excited because everyone from our cohort was going to be together. I'm most excited for the adventure activities and rock climbing. I have hopes that I take this experience with respect, a good attitude and integrity.
